Robert Boston
Espionage

Jay Vincent began to develop the first Robert Boston spy novel fifteen years ago. At that time, only one novel was in mind, Entering the Privacy Zone. However, the original title was to be, A Young Spy because, even though Robert Boston was in his thirties, he was new at the game of espionage. A year after completing Entering the Privacy Zone, Jay Vincent began work on The Shadow Hawk Project. Both books took about three years to write and comprise nearly a thousand pages of novelistic literature.

And there were many influences behind the writing of these books and the development of the series. Of course, any spy series will somehow feel the influence in its creation of James Bond. In considering Bond, though, Jay Vincent chose a similarly flamboyant character but one who was more down to earth, realistic, and American. Robert Boston, apart from his training and work with the Secret Service, could be the well-toned, handsome man living next door. He could be the guy you rub shoulders with at the store or the guy sitting in the sharp car at the traffic light just in front of you. If you read page twenty-six of Entering the Privacy Zone you will see that Robert Boston is American in his appearance, styles, and tastes.

Also, the philosophical influences behind the Robert Boston Spy Series are truly American, especially considering the recent past and the events of 9-11. Because so much of the story lines in the Robert Boston books have to do with terrorism, it's easy to see that the character, Robert Boston, has a disdain for terrorism and those who perpetrate it.

But getting back to the influences behind the development of each book, it is important to know that the second volume in the series, The Shadow Hawk Project, owes much of its technical flair to the works of Tom Clancy while the idea for the third volume, Playing the Dangerous Game, came from two non-fiction sources; Inside the White House by Ronald Kessler and the 1998 film starring Wesley Snipes titled 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The fourth volume, Young Killers, was prompted in the author's mind by the fear that every parent has over his or her children being kidnapped.

To date, there are outlines and story lines including pieces of dialogue and scenes for eight more volumes of The Robert Boston Spy Series waiting, like some huge puzzle, to be assembled and delivered to anxious readers.

But there is more to the series than just the books. There is also the detail behind the characters and items found in the books, As well, there is the rationale that makes so much of what happens in the books applicable to our world today. Overall, however, the author's prevailing focus in the creation and development of The Robert Boston Spy Series is to entertain readers.
